Marshall Arisman at “The Box of Books”

Marshall Arisman is a painter that I discovered two years ago clearing out the house of a hoarder on my old job as a general laborer. The image that I found was a portrait of Hitler on the cover of a magazine, I snagged the issue and it sat in my room for several weeks, before I looked into the artist.

I was reminded today of him when I found a book cover in the free book stand, I immediately recognized the style. The book is called Doll’s Eyes, and is described as “as stomach turning thriller” by Publisher’s Weekly. Apparently they changed the cover art on the paperback edition, which is a shame, but you can see the original on the amazon page here: http://www.amazon.com/Dolls-Eyes-Bari-Wood/dp/0688124402/ref=tmm_hrd_title_0

Arisman’s work is influenced by that of Francis Bacon, but it is much deeper dimensionally. He apparently does (or did) a lot of commercial illustration (which is how I initially discovered him).

Here are some examples of his work all images from his website ( http://www.marshallarisman.com/ ) :
